Cake International Birmingham NEC 2022

This place is so worth a visit if you are a baker or just bake as a hobby. It opened my eyes to more ideas!

I won’t lie this was like Disneyland for me!! The huge talent by many bakers I was floored by how beautiful and skilful these bakers are! Also the live bakes are a massive go to! You learn so much and its super enjoyable. Plus the amount of equipment, ingredients, sprinkles – you name it – its there so you can shop till you drop!!

I am so excited to go back this year!

Meeting Jane Patisserie!!

It was so lovely to meet my baking idol, Jane Patisserie at Cake International. I couldn’t believe my luck when I first turned up and there she was doing a meet and greet. I was utterly stunned I had the chance to meet her the minute I set foot in the place! When I first met her at Cake International, I stumbled my words and (I think) I more or less said “I can’t believe I am actually meeting you, you are my baking idol” to which she gave me the biggest hug. She was so lovely and easy to talk to.

Jane Patisserie aka Jane Dunn is THE baker of all bakers! I have followed her since my early days of baking and still follow to this day. When I first got into baking around 10 years ago, I came across her baking blogs and have never looked back since. She makes recipes super easy to follow for any beginner and also makes it fun and creative too. It was definitely the confidence boost I needed since following her and trying her recipes! I am so happy to have all 3 of her books too! As well as so many wonderful recipes on her website and she also has sections of recommendations from food colouring to equipment.

I cannot wait to see her live at Cake International this year!!

Please take a look at her website, her recipe/blogs are fab!! https://www.janespatisserie.com

Also her books too https://www.janespatisserie.com/book/

ChellBells Cakes

ChellBells Cakes http://chellbells.com

I really enjoyed watching ChellBells Cakes live. She is really creative, I absolutely love her style. She was very helpful with tips and willing to answer questions at the end. One of the very useful tips I took away from her was when using piping bags for buttercream. That if you need to add more into the bag before using again, is to squeeze out the excess air/buttercream at the tip before reusing. I have done this since and it works an absolute treat!!

Also at her live bake and I believe on a featured podcast too, ChellBells Cakes expressed the importance of making cakes from your own skills/knowledge that you’ve worked hard on and what you have to offer. It is important to be honest with a customer on what kind of cakes you make and that you don’t have all the tools to offer all types of cakes (in my eyes it is impossible!) plus this takes away your passion and style from the cakes that you enjoy making and have worked so hard on perfecting over the years. For example I am not a fondant lover! (& I’m pretty sure ChellBells Cakes said once she isn’t either) That I never offer that type of cake as its just not for me. Maybe its because I personally don’t like the taste of it too?! Only stick to what you enjoy and know what is the best that you can offer from your skills, as this will give you the best finish from your creativity (& less stressful!!).

More creative cakes & endless shopping….

So many sprinkles!!!

My shopping spree!! (oops!!)
